The only easy day was... never.

Mountains on Russian Border //

Ghost glanced down at his watch, 10:20. Its been 30 minutes since the team got to their positions. Ghost gripped his sniper rifle, they were to watch until the target reached the rural town. The team was positioned around the town on cliffs and high areas.

"Alright guys this is our guy." Ghost heard his commander through the radio.

Ghost glanced down to the road, he saw a small caravan of four Russian trucks coming to the town. It's hot under this camo sheet. Ghost wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead. The trucks pulled into the town and stopped.

"Don't fire until my mark." His commander's voice buzzed through the mic.

Ghost gripped the sniper rifle tighter. Four men stepped out of each truck, only one was different, he had a light wool jacket, heavy wool cargo pants, and a very expensive Russian pistol.

"All snipers fire on my mark."

Ghost lowered his head into the high powered scope on his rifle. He saw the target man step forward to meet another man, they talked, one handed over a large brief case to the main target.

"Take him out."

Ghost pulled the trigger on the rifle. BANG! All of the teams sniper rifles rang out through out the mountain range. At first the guards were stunned then realized what had happened. They all raised their guns and fired into the canopy of trees where snipers could be hiding.

Vanessa shivered again. The air up here was cold, even though she was wearing a jacket. This was her first mission away from her brother and she was scared stiff. Kevin had been re-assigned to a higher position but she had been left behind. It will be fine, we are just doing a fly-over to make sure they got the right target.

The heli crested a ridge and Vanessa spotted a small town next to some mountains. She grabbed her radio.

"Cobra three this is Predator, can you confirm hit on the target?" She spoke into the radio nervously, but her squad leader gave her a reassuring look.

[Barley]

Ghost kept firing his gun down at the Russian troops, he had a secondary assault rifle on his back in addition to his sniper rifle.

"PREDATOR! THIS IS COBRA THREE, WE HAVE A CONFIRMED KILL, BUT WE'VE RUN INTO A LITTLE SNAG, RUSSIAN TROOPS WERE ALERTED AND LOOKS AS IF THE TOWN HAD SOME MILITIA, WE NEED SOME SUPPORT!" Ghosts commander yelled into the mic over the gunfire.

[Ketic]

Vanessa looked at her squad leader in fear. "I thought he didn't have militia with him?"

Instead of answering her he jumped onto the mounted gun and got ready to fire.

"Cobra three pop smoke to mark your position, we have heavy fire inbound!" She spoke again in the radio. Abandoning her seat, and the only other combat ready soldier on the helo, she moved towards the cockpit. "Take us in low!" She yelled.

[Barley]

Ghost ran back to the rendezvous point, the gunfire went on forever. It seemed like the Russians where following them.

"Ghost pop some smoke so the chopper knows we're here!" Ghost commander was firing into the tree line.

"Predator watch for the red smoke." Ghost yelled into the mic, as he pulled a red smoke grenade. He let it go off in his hand waving it to spread the smoke into the air then dropped it. Bring some rain. Ghost thought as he stepped back from the red smoke.

[Ketic]

Vanessa grabbed hold of a bar to steady herself, then signaled to her squad leader that they were going low.

"There is the smoke!" He yelled.

"I see it!" She wondered if they were supposed to extract the team as well as cover them. The roar of the minigun split the air and she silently hoped they wouldn't get shot down.

The helo came closer to the smoke and Vanessa grabbed for a rope ladder. She quickly threw it over the edge and peeked out to see what was happening down below.

[Barley]

"Oscar and Patrick are down!" Ghost heard his commander call out as he watched the helo dropping low and giving covering fire, it dropped a rope ladder for extraction.

"Ghost you're up we'll cover you." Ghost started to climb the ladder, right as he reached the middle an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) Flew out of the tree line and was heading for the helo.

Vanessa saw the soldier climbing the ladder point to something. RPG!!!!

"Flares!" She yelled to the pilot.

Bright lights burst out of the back of the helo and flew off in a few different directions. The missle didnt track them.

"Move it already!!!" She yelled. She grabbed the rope ladder and frantically tried to pull it up so that the soldier didn't fall to his death when the helo jerked to avoid the RPG.

[Barley]

Ghost pulled himself closer to the ladder so he was more stable when the helo jerked to avoid the RPG. The helo raised altitude and came back down.

"PREDATOR! GET OUT OF HERE, THERES TOO MUCH FIRE, WE'RE GONNA RETREAT INTO THE MOUNTAINS!" Ghost heard his commander scream into the mic, and watched the team run back under the trees.

[Ketic]

Vanessa grabbed the soldier's hand and helped him up into the helo.

"Take us out! We will extract them later!" She hollered to the pilot. Vanessa heard a grunt and saw her squad leader grip his stomach. He turned around but wasn't expecting the helo to move away and he began to fall out of the air vehicle.

[Barley]

Ghost saw that there was a guy falling out of the helo. Ghost launched him self to the edge of the helo and grabbed the squad leader's collar of his jacket.

"help me pull him up." Ghost said to the girl as he heaved him up.

[Ketic]

Vanessa moved to help but she gasped when she saw her squad leader's face. He was screaming and writhing in pain, and he smacked at the soldier trying to save him.

"Back demon!!" The leader yelled at the soldier. He smacked the soldier in the face and tried madly to escape.

"What should I do?" Vanessa fretted.

[Barley]

Ghost leaned back from the flailing leader. Ghost tried to pull him but he was too heavy to pull up without help. Then Ghost was caught off guard when the leader slipped out of the jacket and fell down to the trees below.

[Ketic]

Vanessa screamed as her leader fell to the earth below. She quickly scrambled backward and activated the door locks. Large slabs of metal with windows in them slid over the open sides and covered the open spaces in the middle of the helo. Now that she was safe, Vanessa walked to a seat and sighed.

[Barley]

Ghost sighed and sat down across from the girl. Crazy yanks.(term used by British people to call americans) Ghost thought to himself as he looked up at the girl.

"I'm Ghost, sorry about your squad leader." Ghost's accent was apparent as he spoke. "Might I ask what your name is?"

[Ketic]

"Oh don't worry. I'm used to seeing people dying.. just not like that." She blinked. "I'm Vanessa," She pulled on a headset and smiled at Ghost. "Take us back." She said into the mic on the headset.

[Barley]

Ghost fiddled with his hands, he didn't know what happened to his squad. Once back at HQ Ghost ran up his team on a computer. All of them K.I.A, Ghost sighed and turned around to see the colonel.

"Sorry about your squad, Ghost." The colonel said to Ghost. "But we are reassigning you to a new team."
"What team sir?"
"The 404."

[Ketic]

Vanessa was wandering around after talking to the colonel when she saw Ghost talking to the colonel. She waited until he was done speaking then walked over. "What was that about?" She asked, already knowing what it was about.

[Barley]

"I was transferred to the British Task Force 404." Ghost looked down at his palm which held his new rank, sergeant major, and the Task Force 404 patch.

[Ketic]

Vanessa smiled and opened one half of her jacket. There on her shirt was a 404 patch. "I didn't get promoted though." She grumbled.

[Barley]

"well guess we are working together from now on, huh." Ghost started walking to the drill area.

[Ketic]

"Yeah. See you later." Vanessa left to see if her brother was back on base yet.

[Barley]

The next day after Ghost woke up, he received a new mission for the 404. Ghost looked for Vanessa in the briefing room but she wasn't there. She is probably already on the helo. Ghost thought to himself as he walked to the hangar.

[Ketic]

Vanessa waited in the cabin of the helo; anticipation was in the air. She tapped her boot as she waited to see her new team. As an engineer she probably wouldn't have to leave the helo like the soldiers, but going on a mission was still nervewracking nonetheless. Vanessa bit her lip as she watched her brother Kevin get on a different helo. He was shipping to a different base again. She sighed and closed her eyes, but opened them with a start as the cabin door was opened.

[Barley]

Ghost piled into the helo with his team that will do ground fighting. Ghost sat near the cock pit, and scanned his team to see if there were anybody that he recognized, everybody was tightly packed so it was hard to pick out individuals. The side doors closed and the helo lifted off the ground, and sped toward their destination.
